TLD 18 ✨ Desi dogs 🌭 "Tea" parties 🫖 Live dating show 💔 and more!
Hi friends,
Bet ya didn’t think I was going to kick off the August edition with yet another hot dog event! And yet ! Chaat Dog is popping up at Strong Rope Brewery tonight with some lightly charred dogs, topped with different combinations of chaat, two chutneys (mint and tamarind-cherry), crunchy chickpeas, pickled peppers, cilantro and chaat salt. Not a glizzy gal? How about the seafood paella pop-up at Cafe Balerica on August 10? Not a food-lover? (Unlikely given my network but…) Check out the retro-cool Country Skate night at Xanadu, a new roller rink/ music venue/ nightclub in Bushwick. All of this to say, there is a lot to see/try/taste this month!
August 2, 9, and 16 at Strong Rope Brewery
“Chaat Dog will be popping up on Fridays all summer long! Get your all-beef hot dog on a ghee-toasted bun topped with chaat (a savory Indian salsa). A Desi-American mashup of chef Pervaiz Shallwani’s Chicago upbringing and Pakistani heritage. Veggie options and specialty items also available!”

History, criminology, and a dedicated belief in truly honoring those victims so often mistreated and maligned even after death, all come together for this incredible new event… Before Whitechapel, beyond the sooty, spooky streets of Victorian London. Behind the crime scenes of murders long forgotten. For one hundred and thirty-five years the entire world has been captivated and chilled by the monstrous deeds of one shadowy figure. Lurking in alleys, a stranger in the near distance, lit only by gaslight-- in every sense of the word. We all know the details, the facts as told to us for more than a century… but what don’t we know? Sarah Cailean is a former police officer and detective who’s now an independent consultant for cold case homicides and disappearances, specializing in cases involving serial predators.”

“Xanadu is a brand new, multi-use space in Bushwick, NYC: a roller rink, music venue, and nightclub brought to life by the creators of The Turk’s Inn and Sultan Room…Although it will be open for all ages during the day, Xanadu is definitively a nightclub, and walking inside feels like taking a tab of acid. Retro neon carpeting glows under the black lights, and in the restroom there’s a DJ stand — they’re calling it Club Flush. The whole place smells like popcorn. Rinkside, you can order cocktails with names like “Skaterade” and “Purple Rain” (though you’re not allowed more than two drinks if you’re wearing skates, and, of course, you must sign a liability waiver). A snack stand in the back slings arcade fare such as Frito pie and six kinds of hot dogs.”
